WMD CLPF tags support both external identification as well as integrated PIT tag. They provide a modest entry point for mark recapture and reporting projects whilst adding value through the hybrid ability to be read remotely as well as visually.   CLPF tags support simultaneous reporting avenues, such as citizen science using hand scanners (preventing transcription or misreading errors), public reporting using the identification on the exterior of the tag and passive monitoring using antennae and remote readers.  Available in a variety of integrated tag sizes to suit different levels of detectability. Customization options for the external tag markings. The colour of the integrated tag section denotes the tag type and suitability.  CLPF tags are used on crustaceans to mongoose in population and behavioural studies.

Description

WMD CLPF tags are a self locking cable tag with all the benefits of both external identification as well as integrated PIT tag, making them a highly affordable tag for mark capture and habitat preference studies. The advantages of CLPF  tags are a relatively low entry point for mark recapture and reporting projects. CLPF tags support the running of simultaneous reporting avenues, such as citizen science using dedicated hand scanners (preventing transcription or misreading errors), and wider public engagement and reporting using the identification on the exterior of the tag as well as passive monitoring using small, close range antenna systems with remote readers and data recording . No degradation of the tags external code will occur through UV or chemical action due to the process of code marking.  Available in a variety of cable lengths and with customization options for the external tag markings. The colour of the integrated tag section denotes the tag type and suitability.  CLPF tags are typically used on lobsters and crabs but also have many other uses such as red squirrel monitoring and mongoose population and behavioural studies etc. Different integrated tag sleeve colours are also available upon request and generally used to differentiate tagged sub-samples from discrete areas. A range of different integrated tag sizes are available for varying tag detection read ranges

Note:
-Dedicated inexpensive hand scanners are necessary to read these tags  – Saving project costs and enabling distribution of hand scanners to citizen science partners. They save transcription errors and speeds up reporting where several animals are captured on a single occasion. Also reduces need for waterproof paper and pencils etc
Tags readable through passive monitoring – Using antennae and readers to remotely detect movement and creating quantitative datasets with time stamp information
-Tags readable visual ID – Easy to read and accessible to all. Very suitable for wider public engagement projects
More funding options – Increases funding bid options through wider citizen science engagement which is more restricted with conventional tagging products

Further information:
WMD are a major sponsor of the open access online database openmonitoring.co.uk  Openmonitoring.co.uk supports researchers, citizen scientists and wider public reporting of tagged animals, fish, elasmobranchs, crustaceans, birds, insects and bats
